Laser Hair Reduction

Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief.  Electrolysis is tedious, time consuming and uncomfortable.  Lasers safely remove unwanted body and facial hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin.  Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in under ten minutes, while legs, backs and larger areas do take longer.

Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the cooling devices built into our lasers.

We have several lasers that target unwanted hair so we can make sure we have the right one to suit your skin type.  You will need several treatments and we offer packages of six, where you pay for five treatments and get the sixth treatment free.  For example, each treatment for the underarms is $75.00, so with the package of six, you pay $375.00. Consider a package for your daughter, niece, or friend. They will thank you for years to come!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why do people have Laser Hair Reduction treatments?

A: Hair reduction is a procedure people choose to reduce the presence of unwanted hair.  Some people have treatments because it significantly helps control ingrown hairs.  Others have the treatment instead of waxing because they can shave in between treatments.  Hair can be shaved and treated in the same day as the machine targets the root of the hair.  People who have used electrolysis as their hair removal option find that, since it only treats one hair follicle at a time, it is not practical for larger areas.  Still others find shaving a daily nuisance resulting in razor rash.

Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: Everyone is different and even different areas on the same body respond differently to treatment.  Hormones and some drugs affect the growth of hair.  Most people find that 5 to 7 treatments reduce 60% to 90% of hair.  If you want more hair removed, you will require more treatments.  Best results are achieved if the hair is in the active phase of growth (called the anagen phase).  There is no way of knowing how many hairs are in this phase at any given time, as we have many “crops” of hair.  This is the reason for multiple treatments.

Q: A friend of mine had 7 treatments and then, six months later, some of her hair grew back.
A: Most laser operators will tell you that hair grows in cycles.  There is no time when all the hairs are at the anagen phase of hair growth, so all areas will require multiple treatments.  Individual hairs, like people, take vacations and rest now and then.  After years of uninterrupted growth, a single hair will shed and the follicle will remain dormant for several months, before going back to work to produce a new hair.  We normally shed over a hundred hairs each day.  For every hundred or so shed, about the same number get back from vacation and begin to grow again.  When we are young, hair grows for very long periods of time and rests very little.  As we get older, however, the growing period shortens in relation to the resting phase.

Q: I have a pacemaker…is it safe for me?
A: Yes, for most people, it is safe.  The electromagnetic field of the system we use is no more dangerous to a patient with a pacemaker than a hair dryer is.  If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or under 16 years of age we will not treat you as the safety of the procedure during these times has not been studied.   It is not safe for seizure patients.

Q: How will my skin look and feel immediately after treatment?
A: Temporary redness and swelling may occur. Some people feel a mild "sunburn" sensation. Most people experience little to no discomfort following the treatment.

Q: Any special treatment following my treatment?
A: Avoid sun and apply ice or aloe gel to soothe. Between treatments shave the area. Do not wax, use depilatory creams, or tweeze the area. If you do tan or use self-tanners between treatments, please let us know, as we might not be able to treat you. You might experience some itching between 3 to 7 days after your treatment. This is the purging process when the treated hairs are in the process of falling out. Any over the counter anti-itch cream will help to soothe.

Q: When will I need another treatment?

A: We suggest treatments every 2 to 4 weeks. Cycles of hair growth vary and careful monitoring is important.

Q: What If I don't want another treatment?

A: If you decide not to have further treatment only the hair roots that have been destroyed will be gone. Untreated hair will remain. This is why we term it “hair reduction.” You can reduce hair until you are satisfied!

What our patients say:

You have treated my lip several times and now the fine lines have disappeared. I want you to treat my whole face!
R.M.P. — Georgia

We have noticed an improvement in the overall look of the skin after several treatments.
One reason might be because patients are no longer tweezing and touching the area,
looking for hairs. Another reason the skin improves is because lasers are used to improve
and rejuvenate the skin. We do have lasers that are specifically designed to rejuvenate the skin, so explore your options.

I had a series of laser hair removal at another office and see no difference in the hair. Even my wife says she can’t see any improvement.  Yet I have only had three treatments at your office and see a dramatic difference.

We can thank Dr. David for the top of the line equipment he purchases for his laser
technicians to use. Much research goes into finding the equipment that gives the best
results in the quickest time for our patients.

I've only had three treatments on the hair on my ears and I see a marked improvement.  Thanks for helping me!

Some people have quick results, but others have to have many treatments to achieve
the desired result. Hormones, drugs, even diseases, can all contribute to unusual hair
growth. When we treat an area we don't just target the hairs we see, but we treat the
whole area because we know that some there are many hairs just beneath the skin at
the anagen phase (early stage of growth). Hair treated with the laser at the anagen
phase is gone forever!
